Which suspension related parts are consumables in the automotive chassis system?

    April 29,2026    admin    33

As we all know, the automobile chassis suspension system contains many key consumable parts, mainly universal joints and drive shaft dust covers, drive shaft intermediate support bearings, shock absorbers, control arms and bushings, wheel hub bearings, steering rods and ball joints, brake discs, exhaust pipes, stabilizer bar bushings, etc. These components are subjected to driving vibration, mechanical friction, alternating loads and external environmental erosion for a long time. The rate of loss directly depends on the frequency of vehicle use, driving road conditions and daily maintenance habits. Their working status is directly related to vehicle driving stability, controllability and driving safety.

The drive shaft intermediate support bearing is the core support of the drive shaft and continuously bears radial and axial loads, driving vibration, and torsional force. The internal rolling elements will gradually wear out after long-term operation. If there is insufficient lubrication and seal failure, water and dust will easily enter, which will accelerate component damage, cause abnormal noise of the transmission shaft, intensify vehicle body vibration, and destroy the smoothness of power transmission.

Wheel hub bearings are key components that support wheel rotation. They must not only carry the weight of the entire vehicle, but also resist road impact and lateral forces. Frequent wading and driving on muddy roads can easily lead to the intrusion of water and impurities, or the drying up of grease, exacerbating bearing wear. After damage, there will be a buzzing noise that increases as the vehicle speed increases. In severe cases, it may cause the wheels to loosen, directly threatening driving safety.

Suspension rubber parts and structural parts are the core guarantee of chassis tightness. The control arm bushing connects the body and suspension. After long-term use, it will age, harden, and crack, directly reducing the integrity of the chassis and causing loose driving and abnormal noise. The same goes for stabilizer bar bushings. Aging and damage will cause the vehicle to increase its roll when cornering, weakening chassis stability. Shock absorbers often lose their shock-absorbing and buffering capabilities due to oil seal aging and oil leakage, resulting in bumpy driving and poor control.

Consumable parts of the steering system directly affect steering accuracy. The steering tie rod and ball head are responsible for transmitting steering commands. Once the dust cover is scratched, damaged or aged and cracked, the entry of dust and moisture will aggravate the wear of the ball head, causing the gap to become larger, causing abnormal steering noise, increased steering wheel empty position, and reduced steering accuracy.

Braking and exhaust components also cannot be ignored. Brake discs and brake pads continue to wear out during frequent braking, which directly determines braking efficiency. They need to be inspected and replaced regularly to avoid longer braking distances and brake failure. The exhaust pipe is exposed to the outside for a long time and is easily scratched by stones, corroded by acid, alkali and rainwater, causing rust and perforation. Especially the muffler and interface are damaged, which will increase the exhaust noise and damage the vehicle. NVH Performance, in severe cases, exhaust leakage will affect the normal operation of the engine.

As a vulnerable rubber part, the universal joint dust cover will cause internal grease leakage if damaged, causing dry wear, abnormal noise or even jamming of the cross shaft, directly damaging the drive shaft assembly.

During daily use of the car, car owners can promptly judge the wear and tear of chassis components through symptoms such as heavy steering, abnormal chassis noise, abnormal braking, body shaking, and increased driving noise. It is recommended to go to a professional institution for comprehensive chassis inspections on a regular basis and replace aging and worn parts in a timely manner to ensure vehicle control performance, ride comfort and long-term driving safety.
